NEW CARLISLE - "To be the man, you gotta beat the man."
The Woo Crew certainly lived up to Ric Flair's famous catchphrase by avenging last year's title game loss and defeating the two-time defending champion Granger Panthers, 10-9, in a thrilling extra-inning heavyweight bout on Sunday afternoon at Migley Field.
With The Wiffle®Ball Championship Game tied at 9 in the seventh inning, Walter Griffin III walked it off to win his team the Hometown Cup and earn himself the Kaylor Trophy. The title reign has been a long-time coming for captain Jimmy Tumpane and Hometown Days veteran Andy Sieradzki.
Granger fought hard for a three-peat, walking off Wiffle Dees in the semifinals and also erasing a deficit in the sixth of the final to force extras.
Hometown Days welcomed another record turnout for the Championship weekend, with 96 total teams competing this year.
